Moscow (AP): Russia's navy says a fire aboard a warship has killed an officer.
Navy's spokesman Captain Igor Dygalo says the small blaze broke out Monday on the frigate Neukrotimy, or Indomitable, at a Baltic Sea base.
He says the fire was put out quickly but an officer from the crew was killed.
Frequent accidents are plaguing Russia's navy even as increasingly far-reaching voyages reflect a Kremlin effort to increase the country's global influence.
An accident aboard a nuclear-powered submarine killed 20 people last month.
The Indomitable was damaged in an embarrassing accident in 2005. An explosion of practice ammunition ripped its hull open and it began to sink on the Neva River in St Petersburg on the eve of Navy Day celebrations.
